3D NAND Memory Industry Developments


South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. launched its latest 286-layer NAND chips in April 2024, boosting storage capacity by 50 percent. Google and Apple, among other tech giants, received samples that were directed at AI data centers and smartphones.


Kioxia of Japan disclosed a plan in April 2024 to produce over 1000 layers of 3D-NAND memory by 2031. It proposed a method of etching channel holes into memory cells, thereby increasing the density of stored information.
