June 2023: Temporary organic electrodes have been constructed by researchers at Lund University and Gothenburg University, allowing for their easy incorporation into living systems. Now that the approach has been made public, a future without surgical implantation and removal of bioelectronics is possible. Polymers are tiny molecular chains that can self-organize into conductive particles that can subsequently interact with cells. This procedure deviates from the norm in that it does less damage to the patient. And there's no need for surgery because the particles degrade and are flushed out of the body following therapy. The resulting electrodes can cover a wider surface area than the metal electrodes currently utilized, perhaps increasing their therapeutic efficacy.

August 2023: Scientists created a soft conductive electrode that can be implanted without invasive surgery and is gradually resorbed by the body. According to them, this approach represents a potentially ground-breaking use of electrical stimulation for the treatment of acute illnesses including cancer and nerve damage. Surgically implanted electrodes can provide electrical pulses to targeted regions of the brain for the purpose of therapeutic electrical stimulation in the treatment of chronic illnesses including Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. Patients with non-chronic diseases, such as pain, nerve damage, or cancer, may also benefit from electrotherapy. The conductive organic electrode was created by scientists at Lund University and the University of Gothenburg, and it may be implanted without the need for invasive surgery. The electrodes were made by the team utilizing A5, a water-soluble mixed ion-electron polymer with special properties, such as the ability to self-assemble in a gel cast and produce a highly conductive hydrogel that is stable for months.
