September 2023- 7-Eleven has teamed up with designer The Shoe Surgeon and nine well-known college football players to make a set of unique cleats as part of the store's first Cleat Crew program. The athletes themselves designed the customized cleats, which will be shown and auctioned off weekly over the course of the college football season. The full roster of athletes taking part and the weekly auction timetable will be announced in the next few weeks.
May 2023- Prada has collaborated with Adidas once again, this time redesigning three of Adidas' football boots - the Predator Accuracy, the Copa Pure, and the Crazyfast X. For this project, Prada has taken Adidas' existing high-performance football shoes and upgraded them with premium leathers and other luxurious materials. The iconic Prada Linea Rossa branding is featured on the tongue and heel of each redesigned cleat. While the shoes maintain all of Adidas' advanced football technology, Prada has imbued its own aesthetic and premium touch to these new iterations of the Predator, Copa and Crazyfast models. The result is football boots elevated through the lens of high fashion and Prada's discerning design sensibilities, all while retaining the core performance and tech that make them Adidas icons on the pitch.
March 2023- Nike announced it would stop using kangaroo leather in its shoes in response to moves by U.S. state and federal lawmakers to prohibit the sale of the kangaroo products. Nike declared it would use a proprietary synthetic material instead of kangaroo leather, timed with the launch of a new line of Tiempo soccer boots this summer called the Tiempo Legend Elite. The upper part of the shoe has a new material that performs better and replaces the kangaroo leather. Nike's decision follows the introduction of a bill in January in Oregon, where Nike is headquartered, that would ban products made from dead kangaroos. Another bill before the House of Representatives would make it illegal in importing, transporting and selling kangaroo products.
