    • August 2023: clock.bio, a longevity biotech developing novel regenerative medicines using the inherent ability of human pluripotent stem cells to prevent and treat age-related diseases, announced today that it has emerged from covert mode with $4M in funding and proof-of-concept. Immediate scientific objective of the company is to decode all rejuvenation programs present in human cells in order to construct an atlas of disease and rejuvenation targets for clinical translation. clock.bio seeks to extend and enhance the quality of life by reversing the detrimental impacts of time on our cells, utilizing the regenerative potential of human pluripotent stem cells. The company has developed an aging model that induces the self-rejuvenation mechanism of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) by artificially deteriorating them. Large-scale, unbiased CRISPR screenings of these cells can identify gene candidates that are causally pertinent for cell rejuvenation.

    • May 2023: Scientists have released for the first time a new collection of reference human genome sequences from a larger human population, which captures the diversity in greater detail. The pangenome reference currently contains the genome sequences of 47 individuals, with the researchers aiming to increase this number to 350 by mid-2024. Experts define a pangenome as a collection of whole genome sequences from many individuals that is intended to represent the genetic diversity of the human species. A human genome is the set of instructions for building and maintaining a human being. It is essentially a relaunch of the previous endeavor and addresses a major flaw - the failure to represent the genetic variations prevalent among the 8 billion people on the planet.
