Toyota is decarbonizing factories by utilising hydrogen and renewable energy in collaboration with industry partners. Utilising the fuel cell stack and additional technologies from the Mirai fuel cell electric sedan, it has developed new electrolysing equipment that creates hydrogen from water.

In a Denso plant in Japan, the equipment will be placed into operation. It will function as a functional demonstration to encourage a broader use of the technology in the future. In order to create a model for regional hydrogen production and consumption, Toyota is stepping up its collaboration with the Fukushima prefecture of Japan to design future cities. Clean hydrogen that can be used in one of the gas furnaces at the Denso factory is produced using electrolysis equipment.

Toyota has positioned hydrogen as an essential fuel for programmes that lower CO2 emissions and advance the goal of being carbon neutral. It is encouraging the use of hydrogen by promoting the use of fuel cell (FC) goods, such as stationary generators, in addition to fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), which include passenger cars, lorries, and buses.
