  June 2023: Interim results from a trial conducted by MediPrint Ophthalmics have shown that the company's drug-releasing contact lens can successfully lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients. When it comes to MediPrint's contact lens-based ocular medication delivery portfolio, LL-BMT1 is the crown jewel. The mission of the California, US-based firm is to provide choices for treating eye disorders and ailments in patients so that they can keep using contact lenses to correct their vision. The SIGHT (Sustained Innovative Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension Treatment) trial programme includes the Phase IIb study. The purpose of SIGHT-2 is to determine the optimal dosing schedule for LL-BMT1, a weekly medicated contact lens that releases bimatoprost without the use of preservatives. Ocular hypertension can be managed with the use of the eye drop bimatoprost.

  January 2023: The partnership between Boomerang Ventures Studio, Purdue Foundry, and the Purdue Research Foundation Office of Technology Commercialization will result in the formation of BVS Sight Inc. in January 2023. The collaboration advances pre-market health care intellectual property and Purdue-related health care businesses. A new company will bring smart contact lenses created at Purdue University to market, giving optometrists, ophthalmologists, and their patients access to cutting-edge technology for early glaucoma detection. Patients with increased IOP variability may be at a higher risk for glaucoma development, since studies have linked IOP variability to the destruction of retinal structures in glaucoma patients. The lens power, biocompatibility, softness, transparency, wettability, oxygen transmissibility, and overnight wearability of smart soft contact lenses are all maintained.
