Dental Anesthesia Market Share Analysis
Regular dental check-ups play a crucial role in preventing various oral health issues from escalating into serious problems. The global observance of World Oral Health Day on March 20th each year aims to raise awareness about dental health and the importance of maintaining good oral well-being. Spearheaded by the FDI World Dental Federation, the largest dental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, representing over 1 million dentists worldwide, these campaigns contribute significantly to global oral health initiatives.
The UK's National Smile Month stands out as the largest and longest-running oral health campaign, educating millions of people about the advantages of a healthy smile and making oral health both engaging and enjoyable. Simultaneously, the Oral Health Foundation organizes Mouth Cancer Action Month in the UK, a campaign focused on increasing awareness of mouth cancer and making a positive impact by saving lives through early detection and prevention. The impact of these awareness initiatives is evident in the rising trends towards dental health check-ups, consequently boosting the dental anesthesia market.
The demographic shift towards an aging global population is also a key factor propelling the growth of the global dental anesthesia market. Older adults, more susceptible to dental issues, experience age-related conditions like root and coronal caries, dry mouth (xerostomia), and periodontitis. The increasing number of elderly individuals globally has resulted in a higher prevalence of oral disorders. In the United States, projections by the Rural Health Information Hub indicate that by 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 years or older, with the number of older adults aged 65 and above expected to reach nearly 90 million by 2050. The United Nations predicts that by 2050, 1 in 6 people globally will be over 65, a significant increase from 1 in 11 in 2019.
Moreover, the World Health Organization highlights that oral cancer (specifically, cancer of the lip or mouth) ranks among the three most common cancers in certain countries in Asia and the Pacific. Europe and Asia, housing some of the world's oldest populations, with individuals aged 65 and above, according to the Population Reference Bureau, are facing an increased burden of dental problems associated with aging. In the UK, around 19% of the population, or approximately 12.3 million people, were aged 65 or over in 2019, as reported by the UK parliament. Similar trends are observed in Japan, where 28% of the population is aged 65 or above, and Italy, with 23% of the population falling into this age group.
The aging population's susceptibility to dental problems results in a higher demand for dental surgeries. Consequently, the increasing number of elderly individuals worldwide is a significant driver behind the escalating growth of the global dental anesthesia market. In essence, the convergence of heightened awareness campaigns and the demographic shift towards an older global population underscores the critical role of dental anesthesia in addressing the evolving needs of oral health on a global scale.
