Latest Company Updates:
July 2023 - DEWA has developed a satellite IoT gateway. This gateway that has been designed & fabricated at the company’s inhouse R&D Centre is made for connecting terrestrial sensors to ground networks and satellites. The gateway as such has different operational technology connectivity & IoT edge protocol libraries for supporting the most recent communication network which includes Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and LoRa.
This device is aimed to fit utilities along with several other industrial applications like fleet management, smart cities, agriculture, asset tracking, and infrastructure. The other alluring features comprise a long battery life for supporting the communication needs as well as compliance with the security standards of the international IoT device, including OT security.
Through the Space-D programme of DEWA, they aim the nanosatellite technology for complementing terrestrial IoT communication networks & boost the effectiveness and efficiency of DEWA’s operations & support the digitalization of their water networks and electricity. This will propel the efficacy of their operations, planning, and preventive maintenance for their distribution divisions, transmission, and production as also their smart grids and EV charging stations. It also cuts down costs, augments asset use, allows experience and knowledge transfer, & trains Emiratis at DEWA.
The utility development of the satellite technology was pioneered by DEWA with the Space-D program that was unveiled in January 2021.
Two satellites or to be more precise nanosatellites have been unveiled to date, both created in the research and development centre, on 1st January 2022 as well as April 2023 respectively.
