    Oct 2023- Geosat has recently announced the successful testing of its prototype commercial-grade land-based reconnaissance drone by the Navy. In response to the Navy's specific requirements, Geosat has incorporated domestically manufactured engines into the drone, allowing it to sustain flight for more than 6 hours. This is a significant improvement compared to the typical one-hour flight capability of most domestic drones. Moreover, the drone has exceptional long-distance communication, control, and image transmission capabilities, with a range that exceeds 100 kilometres. Among the five commercially available military drones, this model is considered the most demanding.


    Considering the escalating geopolitical tensions in recent years, countries worldwide have been accelerating their development of the defense industry. Taiwan, aiming for self-reliance and a military advantage, has allocated funds for the procurement of a total of 1,779 commercial-grade military drones across its army, navy, and air force. Specifically, the Army plans to acquire 392 drones between 2024 and 2025, the Navy intends to obtain 1,072 drones between 2024 and 2028, and the Air Force is set to acquire 315 drones in 2024.


    March 2023- Recently, a government-owned military equipment firm in Taiwan unveiled five new models of indigenous military drones to strengthen the island nation's capacity to wage asymmetric warfare against the growing military threat in China. These new drones, which are customized for several branches of Taiwan's armed forces, come in a variety of sizes and are equipped with combat or surveillance capabilities. In line with national defense self-sufficiency plan, the organization has been devotedly working toward creating essential technologies to achieve total independence in defense.
