July 2023: Genetic Insights, the first consumer-initiated genetic test from Quest Diagnostics, is now live on the company's questhealth.com website. Risk for nearly two dozen hereditary conditions, including heart and blood disorders, breast and colon cancer, and carrier status for sickle-cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, and Tay-Sachs disease, can be determined from a saliva sample using the Genetic Insights test. The test employs next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology to scan more sections of the individual's genome than microarray testing, analyzing thousands of DNA variations in the genes linked with the conditions within the test's coverage. According to Quest, the NGS technology may identify eighty to ninety percent of a person's hereditary risk for certain diseases.

November 2022: Abbott has announced the availability of its new PanbioTM HIV Self Test via Hong Kong's e-commerce platforms for retail sale in November 2022. The test takes only 15 to 20 minutes to complete and provides results in the comfort of one's own home at any time. Self-administered HIV tests purchased without a doctor's prescription have the potential to increase screening rates by removing impediments including limited access to healthcare and negative social connotations of HIV testing. PanbioTM HIV Self Test is a fingerstick blood test that identifies HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies in 15-20 minutes. The test is fast, private, and easy to perform at home. When utilized by untrained lay users in a clinical investigation, Panbio had a sensitivity of 95.1% and a specificity of 99.6%, making it very accurate and trustworthy. Abbott's initial U.S. HIV test was developed in 1985, and the company's recent leadership in making testing more accessible during the COVID-19 epidemic forms the basis for the PanbioTM HIV Self Test.
