Sep 2023: As more surgeons use technology in operating rooms, UK robotic surgery group CMR Surgical has secured $165 million from current investors, including Japan's SoftBank, to support its global expansion. The UK's largest private medical technology business, CMR Surgical, last obtained capital in 2021 with a $600 million investment at a $3 billion valuation. Since then, the valuation has not gone up. The need for less intrusive procedures and technical progressions have led to a steady increase in robotic surgery. Compared to human surgeons, robots can frequently do surgery with fewer incisions. Versius applies to seven surgical specialties and over 130 procedures, ranging from hysterectomies to hernia repairs. Additionally, it gathers operational data that could assist the company in enhancing the system's functionality and giving surgeons more information.
