Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive Launch Globally to Fight Rabies and Avoid Virus Transmission
By Rahul Gotadki , 08 December, 2022
Rabies is a zoonotic, viral disease that can be transmitted through pets and wild animals. The disease is virtually 100% fatal once the clinical symptoms appear. Around 59,000 people across the globe still die from rabies every year, even though it is vaccine-preventable. Public and private organizations worldwide have launched various anti-rabies vaccination drives to inoculate dogs and prevent the virus transmission to humans.
Boehringer Ingelheim, a key player in the veterinary rabies vaccines market, extended its commitment to supporting rabies prevention in dogs by donating around 100,000 doses of rabies vaccine in September 2022. The donation is a part of their relaunched Shots for Good program, in collaboration with Greater Good Charities, and will be used in underserved communities and on tribal lands across the United States. Denise Bash, Vice President at Greater Good Charities, stated, "We recognize the positive impact of vaccination events for raising awareness regarding rabies along with the ways of preventing this deadly disease in observance of World Rabies Day. Also, the Shots for Good initiative and the generous vaccine donations from Boehringer Ingelheim's Animal Health further support protecting the pets while making this important effort possible."
