July 2023: According to sources familiar with the situation, Biogen Inc. narrowly defeated Sanofi SA to secure its $7.3 billion acquisition of Reata Pharmaceuticals. After numerous bidding rounds, an organization known as "Party A" lost the race to acquire Reata by 50 cents per share. According to the persons who asked not to be named because the situation is private, Party A was Sanofi. Sanofi, Biogen, and Reata representatives all declined to comment.

Aug 2023: In response to mounting economic pressure, GSK has announced plans to cease direct business operations in Nigeria, ending its presence in Africa's greatest economy after more than 50 years. The pharmaceutical company announced on Thursday that it had told GSK Nigeria, its local affiliate, that it would discontinue handling the distribution of its prescription drugs and vaccines and instead turn to Nigerian-based third parties. Additionally, Haleon, the consumer health company of GSK that was split out last year and produced goods, including Sensodyne toothpaste and Panadol medicines, indicated it would switch to a third-party distribution arrangement. GSK did not explain the decision, although the company has previously hinted that it was under pressure to obtain much-needed foreign money, just like its worldwide competitors in the nation. Foreign exchange is crucial for international corporations to remit domestic earnings and for those who, unlike GSK, also produce locally to pay for imported raw materials.
