GE Aerospace and Clemson University have received funding from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to aid in their ongoing development of the cutting-edge materials required to fly at high speeds and withstand extreme temperatures. The Paris Air Show today saw the announcement of this information. Members of a partnership that is creating ceramic-matrix composite materials include GE Aerospace, Clemson University, and Missouri University of Science and Technology. These materials would be stronger than the metal alloys currently in use, but lighter and better suited to endure extremely high temperatures.
The new materials are expected to revolutionize aviation travel time, as well as minimize environmental impact, and boost the structural safety of the fuselage, in addition to enhancing security.Â
GE Aerospace is a world leader in producing jet and turboprop engines as well as integrated systems for commercial, military, business, and general aviation aircraft.
May 2023
GE Aerospace (Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.) has announced the development of its newest facility in the Dayton area to produce engine components for civil, military, and aero-derivative applications.
The Beavercreek plant, a 280,000 square foot facility that consolidates operations from eight locations, is located at the Miami Valley Research Park on more than 53 acres. The new location will have 400 hourly and salaried employees by the end of the year.
GE is well-known in the market because to its significant use of ceramic matrix composites (CMC). For more than 20 years, the company has made significant breakthroughs in the design of aeroengines, opting for CMC over metal alternatives because of its durability, heat resistance, and light weight.Â
