    • March 2023- Gerdau Graphene announced the launch of the "First" Graphene-Enhanced PE Additive Masterbatch for Extruded Packaging and More. The company has also partnered with conglomerate Sumitomo Corp. for distribution of its graphene-enhanced masterbatches in Japan. In July of 2022, I reported on how, within a year, we had reported on new entrants in the arena of graphene additives for thermoplastics and their benefits derived from graphene's mechanical properties: lesser friction and weight, better electrical and thermal conductivity, and more efficient lubrication, as well as enhanced barrier characteristics against gases and liquids, and protection from weathering oxidation and UV light. They included NeoGraf Solutions and MITO Materials Solutions, as well as ongoing developments from OCSiAL, the largest global manufacturer of single-wall carbon/graphene nanotubes and masterbatches for automotive, electronics, and other industries. However, the newest entrant that came to our attention then was Gerdau Graphene. This company was inaugurated the previous year by its 120-year-old parent organization, Gerdau--Brazil's largest steel supplier and one of the biggest suppliers of long steel in the Americas and of special steel in the world. Operating independently, the new startup nanotechnology company Gerdau Graphene has been positioning itself as a major producer of graphene materials for industrial applications in the Americas. The company confirmed that it had developed what is known as next-generation graphene-improved plastics at a Brazilian government-funded enhanced materials center in São Paulo.

March 2023- Ampacet has introduced the Biax4ce portfolio, a range of masterbatch solutions specifically designed for oriented mono-material PE film applications. These solutions support the circular economy by enabling the recycling and reuse of plastic films. The Biax4ce portfolio offers various benefits, including improved film performance, enhanced mechanical properties, and increased processability.

June 2023- Ampacet has introduced a new polymer processing aid (PPA) formulation that is free of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). This PPA offers enhanced performance in plastic processing without relying on fluoro-based additives. By utilizing a non-fluoro-based formulation, Ampacet provides a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for improving the processing of polymers.

February 2023- LyondellBasell and KIRKBI A/S made an agreement to make an investment in APK, which specializes in a unique solvent-based recycling technology for low density polyethylene (LDPE).

October 2022- LyondellBasell and Shakti Plastic Industries, India's largest plastic scrap recycler and waste collection company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a joint venture to build and operate a fully-automated, mechanical recycling plant in India. The plant is intended to process rigid packaging post-consumer waste and produce 50.000 tonnes of recycled polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) per year, equivalent to the single-use plastic waste produced by 12.5 million citizens.
