Mechanical ventilator companies specialize in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of medical devices that provide artificial ventilation to patients who are unable to breathe adequately on their own. These devices are critical in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, intensive care units (ICUs), and emergency rooms, assisting patients with respiratory failure or compromised lung function. Mechanical ventilators deliver a controlled flow of air into the lungs, supporting oxygenation and carbon dioxide removal.

    • February 2023:  Philips Respironics, a subsidiary of Royal Philips, undertook a voluntary recall notification in the United States and a field safety notice in other countries. The purpose of these actions is to draw attention to potential health hazards associated with the sound abatement foam, which is composed of polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) and is found in specific CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilator devices. Philips Respironics issued the recall notification/field safety notice on the basis of an initial, limited data set and toxicological risk assessment, as well as a reasonable worst-case scenario assumption regarding the potential health risks. After Philips issued public statements in April 2021 regarding the matter and potential risks to users, and again in June 2021 regarding the recall notification/field safety notice, Philips Respironics encountered a significant surge in complaints purportedly related to foam degradation.

    • January 2023: Getinge introduced its new Servo-c mechanical ventilator, which provides therapeutic instruments for lung protection in both pediatric and adult patients. The organization's objective with Servo-c, as stated in a press release, is to increase the number of hospitals that can afford and access healthcare. The design of the device streamlines respiratory support. Challenges pertaining to lung protection manifest in diverse forms and dimensions. For this reason, Servo-c is engineered to be user-friendly, efficient, and secure, allowing for individualized respiratory treatments. It is well-suited for hospitals in the targeted markets that are seeking an affordable high-acuity ventilator, as it possesses the necessary functionalities. By utilizing modular component parts, Servo-c facilitates intelligent fleet management. This reduces expenses and guarantees operational continuity without requiring specialized disposables.
