September 2023: A Cornell-led interdisciplinary group has been awarded a five-year grant to establish a new center dedicated to the engineering, testing, and commercialization of international point-of-care diagnostic devices. The National Institutes of Health's Fogarty International Center, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), and National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health will provide funding for PORTENT. The center functions as an incubator, accepting mid-stage technologies pertaining to cancer, infection, and nutrition that are of particular significance to global health. The center, which accelerated the production of rapid diagnostics for SARS-CoV-2, is the most recent in a series of NIBIB initiatives that utilize multidisciplinary partnerships to develop and disseminate technologies with clinical applications.
September 2023: Arcadia, the industry leader in healthcare data analytics, introduced a generative artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that generates insights and actions from data while serving as a co-pilot at the point of care. Utilizing aggregated, longitudinal patient records curated within Arcadia's data platform, large language models (LLMs) powered by OpenAI reduce the time and effort required to enhance risk factor documentation, identify patterns in healthcare utilization, and develop care plans, among other tasks. The assistant provides a selection of pre-configured use cases that enrich the workflows of the care team with valuable insights. Further advantages consist of the capability to rapidly analyze the amalgamation of thousands of data points to discover "needle in the haystack" insights, such as an undisclosed medical condition.List of point of care technology Key companies in the market
