Appvion has added CleanSlate, a new direct thermal film, to its line of Next Generation Technology products. More environmental durability is offered compared to traditional direct thermal performance.
Appvion's CleanSlate film can be used to print pressure-sensitive labels on standard direct thermal printers. Because CleanSlate is a direct thermal film without phenolic developers, its color makes it easy to recognize. Appvion uses its patent-pending Next Generation Technology to produce heat-stable and high-performing films, tickets, and tag products. Direct thermal papers and films from Appvion are used in retail, grocery, warehousing, e-commerce, and gaming applications all over the world for pressure-sensitive labels, linerless labels, tickets, and tags.
Currently, Résiste 185 is one of the direct thermal paper face stocks coated with the Next Generation Technology chemistry. It is a direct thermal face stock with a top coating that can withstand heat, oil, and room-temperature plasticizers. It is used in retail, logistic label, and weigh scale applications where labels must be used temporarily.

At Labelexpo Europe 2023, Lintec Europe unveiled new labelstock innovations, such as direct thermal paper that can be used in place of synthetic goods.
In an effort to use fewer synthetic direct thermal labelstocks, pellex direct thermal paper has been introduced. Compared to plastic, conventional paper has significantly weaker mechanical properties and is porous and hydrophilic by nature. These qualities have traditionally precluded the use of paper in many applications. On the other hand, Plaless direct thermal paper is compatible with microwave ovens and offers better resistance to moisture and water immersion as well as improved rub resistance.
