Lack of Infrastructure Affects Electric Vehicles Sales in the European Nations

By Shubhendra Anand , 07 January, 2025

Electric vehicles are gaining momentum in the automobile market. The clean energy transition trends will also boost the demand for electric cars in 2024. A survey in 2024 shows the list of European countries in 2024. This survey shows that the lack of electric charging infrastructure is the primary obstruction in buying electric vehicles. Respondents in the survey voted for electric infrastructure as a roadblock to purchasing an electric car in 2024. Electrification in transportation is important to reduce carbon emissions in the environment. Further, increasing the adoption of electric vehicles will help in the clean energy transition.

The survey in 2024 shows that France is the emerging country in the list of European countries where the adoption of EVs is less. France's infrastructure for charging electric vehicles is very poor. Thus, it is the main reason consumers opt less to buy an electric car in France. The survey shows other European countries on the list, too. The survey shows that 26 percent of French respondents agreed that electric infrastructure was an obstacle to buying electric cars. It is followed by Germany and Austria with 24 and 22 percent, respectively, in 2024. The United Kingdom acquires fifth among the top ten European countries, with 20 percent of respondents blaming electric infrastructure. These European nations claim that limited electric infrastructure for electric vehicles stops them from purchasing EVs. However, this is the main reason behind the low adoption of electric cars globally.

Experts claim that proper electric vehicle charging infrastructure is important daily to run an electric car. If the automotive industry of a nation fails to set up charging stations, then electric cars may become a failure. Since EVs take longer to recharge, launching multiple EV charging stations in the countries is necessary. However, the new laws on electric charging stations show that European countries like France and Germany are ramping up electric infrastructure setups. However, consumers find fewer charging stations, making maintaining an electric vehicle challenging.
