Taiwan’s Energy Crisis to Impact AI Sector in 2024

By Shubhendra Anand , 24 October, 2024

Technology is advancing daily as many new tools and features are coming into the sector. Artificial intelligence is the pivotal source of advanced technology in the technology domain nowadays. In the era of artificial intelligence, the dependency on technologies is growing significantly. Recently, Taiwan went through an energy crisis in 2024.

Taiwan is known for its significant contribution to the world in semiconductors. The nation's hold on semiconductor manufacturing capacity is strong. However, the energy crisis in Taiwan will affect semiconductor production in 2024. Hence, it will affect artificial intelligence's progress and the development of tools like ChatGPT, Bard, Gemini, and others. Artificial intelligence is the main component behind generative AI. The processing of generative AI requires higher computational resources. Therefore, experts claim that the global tech sector can face several issues due to Taiwan's energy sector crisis in 2024. According to surveys, Taiwan's semiconductor manufacturing is 18 percent of the world's total semiconductor production. Moreover, Taiwan's manufacturing capacity is about  92 percent of the world's advanced computer chips. Therefore, Taiwan's downward momentum in the energy sector may create difficulties for artificial intelligence functionalities in 2024.

Experts claim that artificial intelligence depends on computational powers. Semiconductors facilitate the computational powers in AI-based tools and generative AI tools. Since global tech is progressing with generative AI tools, the semiconductor industry plans to meet the global chip demand by adopting several other methods. Additionally, semiconductor companies are finding ways for chip advancement. Further, a shortage of semiconductors can affect the AI data centers too. Experts claim that the energy crisis will affect AI and other energy sectors in the market. Therefore, Taiwan should find more ways to upgrade its energy sector in 2024.
