The Greenland government has given GreenRoc Mining PLC permission to expand its Amitsoq graphite mine, the company announced on Monday.
The extra region, according to the mineral explorer with an emphasis on the UK and Greenland, is located directly to the west of the existing license MEL 2013-06, which includes the Amitsoq deposit.

American graphite company Westwater Resources Inc. signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with the renowned manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) batteries SK On as part of efforts to strengthen its battery raw material supply chain in North America following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
According to the agreement, the two companies will work together to develop high-performing, environmentally friendly anode materials exclusively for SK On batteries. Should the initiative be a success, SK On will look into the possibility of obtaining Westwater's anode materials for use in its battery manufacturing plants in the United States.
In Kellyton, Alabama, Westwater is constructing a graphite processing facility. 7,500 metric tonnes of refined graphite will be made annually during the initial stage of the plant's construction.
Along with the cathode, electrolyte, and separator, anode is one of the four essential parts of a lithium-ion battery. It establishes the battery's lifespan and charging rate. In commercial lithium-ion batteries, graphite is now the most used anode material. The most recent U.S. cooperation with Westwater lays the stage for future anode material sourcing in North America as part of SK On's attempts to diversify its supply chain in order to benefit from IRA rules.

With the acquisition of the Brazilian graphite project, Gratomic will be allowed to diversify the former's interests and create a large-scale graphite deposit segment at the Capim Grosso project. It will help strategically cater to the burgeoning demand for superior-quality graphite and offer a major competitive edge by reducing the risk related to business development across numerous mining-friendly locations.
In July 2023: An award-winning technology, built by an American company with help from NETL, utilizes coal waste as an anode material in lithium-ion batteries. An anode is one of two electrodes in a lithium-ion battery, usually made of graphite deposited on copper foil, with graphite representing a significant component of a lithium-ion battery's overall weight and cost. In support of an environmentally sustainable and prosperous energy future, NETL awarded X-MAT®, a division of Semplastics, USD 1 million in 2020 for a three-year project to build polymer-derived ceramic composite anodes.
