April 2023: The U.S. FDA granted Pixium Vision, a business whose goal is to employ bionic implants to treat vision impairment, an accelerated regulatory pathway. A breakthrough label has been given to the French business that created the Prima system. Its main goal is to treat the issue of failing light receptors in people with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which affects the posterior region of the eye. The core portion of a person's visual field, which is the area most affected by the condition indicated above, is the major target of the Prima system's principal goal, which is to partially restore visual acuity within that area while simultaneously maintaining that person's normal peripheral vision. The technology consists of a wireless retinal implant that is about two millimeters in size, a camera that is attached to a pair of eyeglasses, and a small processing unit that can be carried in a pocket.

October 2023: Xēnix Medical, a company specializing in surgical implants for spinal fusion surgery, disclosed that it has obtained 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the nanotechnology designation of its neoWave™ line of interbody fusion implants. These implants are distinguished by their proprietary NANOACTIV™ surface technology. The utilization of nanotechnology in the neoWave cervical and lumbar interbody devices, including the NANOACTIV surface, strengthens the assertions made about these devices. It is worth noting that more than 7,000 of these devices have been successfully implanted in the United States. The assessment conducted by researchers on the NANOACTIV surface technology demonstrated that the micro- and nanoscale characteristics of the material created a bioinstructive interface, which effectively stimulated the development of mesenchymal stem cells into osteogenic lineages.
