    • June 2023: The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has authorized the ForenSeq® MainstAY process, according to a QIAGEN announcement. As a result, accredited forensic DNA laboratories can process DNA casework samples and search the resulting profiles against the U.S. National DNA Index System (NDIS) CODIS database, which contains 20 million offender profiles and is used by law enforcement agencies all over the country to aid in the resolution of criminal investigations. Verogen, a QIAGEN firm, created and marketed the ForenSeq MainstAY procedure. It comprises the MiSeq FGx Sequencing System, the high-throughput ForenSeq MainstAY kit, and the ForenSeq MainstAY Analysis Module in the Universal Analysis Software. The Utah Bureau of Forensic Services Laboratory System submitted the procedure for NDIS approval. A more affordable option for evaluating short tandem repeats (STR) using capillary electrophoresis (CE), this standardized workflow facilitates volume casework for sexual assault cases.
